May Kicks Off the Summer Season in Wyoming!

May is truly a wonderful month in big, beautiful Wyoming. In Star Valley, the snow melts and the amazing plants and flowers start to pop up again… Spring is the perfect time to experience the wonders of nature as well. Many animals are with their young and are photographed on social media by wildlife organizations, animal tour companies and the many visitors to our area.

There are also other reasons to visit Star Valley, Jackson Hole and the National Parks in our area.

For example… In Jackson Hole, Wyoming the spirit of the true west lives on in Jackson Hole and is celebrated every year during Elkfest and Old West Days, sponsored by the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce! On May 19, the Famous Boy Scouts Antler Auction takes place on the Jackson Hole Town Square. It draws in people from all over the globe, to see this unique auction of antler sheds being purchased!

Old West Days is the next Saturday — May 26. A big parade goes through the local streets of Jackson Hole, starting at 10 AM… And, it’s one of the only remaining horse-drawn parades in America! Don’t forget to stop into the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar on Cache Street afterwards. They recently did some wonderful renovations outside and inside so the public can visit for many more years of enjoyment!

In Grand Teton National Park, there are many Ranger-led activities starting up for the season. Check with the nps.gov website and the many things you can do in the Park. Take lake hikes, meet up for map chats, talk about bear safety, and learn about nature in a “nutshell!”

In Yellowstone National Park, there’s lots going on – so be sure to check out the nps.gov website for Yellowstone. They have fun events planned like “InstaMeets” with the Park’s social media team members to photograph the sunset, plus many discussions about mudpots, hot springs and the plentiful wildlife in this area.

This month in Star Valley, Wyoming – it’s a bit quieter for us.  As a collection of small towns If you didn’t know, Star Valley consists of Afton, Alpine, Auburn, Bedford, Etna, Fairview, Freedom, Grover, Osmond, Smoot, Thayne, and Turnerville.  There are plenty of outdoor activities starting up in our area, like rafting the Snake River, golfing at Star Valley Ranch Resort, hiking to the Intermittent Spring (the largest of only three cold water geysers in the world!), and having a relaxing soak in your choice of hot springs nearby.

We at Star Valley Lodge are very excited spring is here…
Next up, it’s the busy summer season!
